Email Forwarders allow the email sent to one account, to be forwarded to another account or to several other email addresses.  This is helpful if you want copies of emails sent to one account to be sent to multiple accounts or email addresses.

Email Forwarders can also be used to mask (or hide) your real email address, in what I call a ‘Disposable Email Forwarder”, to add to my spam protection techniques.  I use the Email forwarder as a disposable email address to receive mailing lists, signup for stuff, and to sign up for sites that I don’t really plan on using for a long time, or that I really don’t know if I trust.

To do this, I make an Email Forwarder and have it forward email to my real email address.  Then I sign up for everything using the Email Forwarder address, and receive any email via my real address without giving my real address out (Just don’t try to email anyone, Forwarders only receive email).  When I start getting too much spam, I delete the Email Forwarder, and make another one, or make a whole bunch.  (You get unlimited Email Forwarders in your BakoWeb hosting account).  It’s like having a bunch of email addresses.

To make an Email Forwarder:

  1. Login to your websites Cpanel account
  2. Scroll down to ‘Email Management Tools’ section header and click ‘Email Forwarders’
  3. Click ‘Add Forwarder’ (NOT ‘Add Domain Forwarder’)
  4. Under the ‘Address’ Section, in the ‘Address to Forward’ field,  enter the username part of your email address  (somebody@ but without the at (@) sign)
  5. If you have multiple domain names on your hosting account, you will need to use the drop down menu to select which domain name you want the email forwarder to be associated with.  If you have just one domain name, the email forwarder will automatically be setup for your domain name.
  6. In the ‘Destination’ Section, click the ‘forward to email address’ box, and enter your real email address (or the email address you want the email forwarded to).
  7. Click the ‘Add Forwarder’ button
  8. Now send a test email to the email forwarder address
  9. All done
